Our History

S&M Café (which stands for sausage and mash, rather than anything else less wholesome) was created in 2002 by Kevin Finch, when he took over an existing café on Portobello Road in West London. Since that time the business has grown to serve other local communities in Islington, Spitalfields, Smithfield Market and Leadenhall Market. In 2007, an S&M Café was also opened in the 02 Arena in Greenwich.

s&m also stands for:
- Traditional 'British Grub' served at local, affordable prices.
- A unique eating experience that celebrates interesting aspects of Britishness.
- A physical environment that is influenced by true British design aesthetics.
- Restoring some of our classic café buildings to their former glory, to the acclaim of the design press.

Often called 'the designer greasy spoon' s&m fulfills all of the expectations of contemporary dining, whilst recognising traditional values in food, service and architecture.
